The University of Birmingham Department of Political Science and International Studies is offering postgraduate research studentships, starting in September 2009, for doctoral degrees in the principal research areas of the Department: Asian politics; diplomatic studies; European politics; international relations theory; international political economy; political sociology; political theory; and security studies.

Departmental Award studentships are sponsored by the University of Birmingham, and provide full funding and living expenses for a period of three years. In addition, there will be opportunity to teach, for additional remuneration.

The deadline for applications for Department Awards is 26 June 2009.
In addition, all research students in the Department are eligible to apply for funding to attend conferences and conduct fieldwork.

The 2007-2009 EUSA Executive Committee is pleased to announce the 2009 EUSA Haas Fellowship Competition, an annual summer fellowship for graduate student EU-related dissertation research. We will offer two unrestricted fellowships of $1,500 each.

The selection committee consists of:
- Liesbet Hooghe (EUSA chair, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Free University of Amsterdam)
- Bonnie Meguid (University of Rochester)
- Jonas Tallberg (Stockholm University)

Applicants must:
• be pursuing the doctoral degree (PhD) at an accredited institution in any country;
• be writing a dissertation in English;
• have an EU-related, doctoral dissertation topic approved by the professor who will supervise it; and,
• be able to demonstrate the relevance to EU studies of the dissertation topic.

Applicants for this Fellowship should submit:
(1) A two-page (max 1,200 words) précis of the dissertation research
(2) A one-page description that describes the summer project and specifies how the fellowship may be used
(3) A CV
(4) Ask for a letter of support, which must be from the Chair of the student’s dissertation committee; the letter should be sent directly to EUSA (eusa@pitt.edu) under the heading “2009 Haas Fellowship:letter
for [applicant name]“

Please send applications to eusa@pitt.edu, and use the heading “2009 Haas Fellowship: [applicant name].” The firm deadline for applications to be received in the EUSA office is January 31, 2009.
The successful applicant(s) will be notified by March 1, 2009, and will receive the grant as soon as the fellowship award letter has been signed and returned to EUSA. The fellowship will be paid in one lump sum by check only and in US dollars only.

European Studies Research Institute: Graduate Teaching Assistantships 2009

Every year the University of Salford offers a number of Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) for suitably qualified candidates wishing to study for a PhD. Applications are now invited for scholarships based in the European Studies Research Institute (ESRI) starting in October 2009. The scholarships are worth £13,290 per annum over three years and are open to UK/EU students.

Fundatia Konrad Adenauer acorda burse de studiu studentilor foarte dotati.
Candidatii trebuie sa demonstreze faptul ca sunt preocupati de viata politica si activ implicati in comunitate, precum si receptivi la valorile crestin-democrate. Identificarea persoanelor talentate, sponsorizarea acestora si pregatirea lor în vederea asumarii de responsabilitati în domeniul politic si economic, în stiinte si în mass-media, în cadrul organizatiilor culturale si civice – sunt obiectivele programului Fundatiei Konrad Adenauer de acordare a burselor “Sur- Place”.

Programul se adreseaza tinerilor studenti, incepand cu anul I de studiu, care îndeplinesc urmatoarele criterii:
- se implica activ în viata sociala si/sau politica
- au dorinta de a influenta pozitiv viitorul politic, economic, educational sau/si social al României
- au rezultate academice deosebite
- cunosc cel putin o limba straina
- cunostintele de limba germana reprezinta un avantaj
- au ca scop profesional angajarea in domeniul public sau activitati ale vietii publice (media, partide, asociatii, universitati. ..)

Burse in Franta

Programul de burse de excelenta Eiffel a fost creat in 1999 de catre Ministerul afacerilor externe si se adreseaza studentilor straini care doresc sa urmeze studii de master sau de doctorat in Franta. Bursele de excelenta Eiffel sunt destinate studentilor straini ale caror calitati au fost recunoscute de catre institutiile franceze de invatamant superior care doresc sa-i primeasca pentru a-si urma studiile. Studiile urmate in Franta ii vor conduce catre profesii de responsabilitate in domeniul public si in cel privat, cu exceptia celor din invatamant si din cercetare.

Institutiile de invatamant superior francez preselectioneaza, dintre cei mai buni studenti straini pe care doresc sa-i primeasca la studii, pe candidatii pe care ii vor prezenta la bursele Eiffel. Candidaturile directe ale studentilor sau cele prezentate de institutii straine nu sunt acceptate. Este imperativ ca studentii sa fie deja in contact cu institutia franceza inainte de orice interventie a Ambasadei Frantei. Rolul Ambasadei se va limita la un eventual sprijin al candidaturilor studentilor.

Bursele se acorda studentilor care doresc sa urmeze studii in domeniile stiintelor tehnice, economice, de gestiune, juridice si politice la nivel master sau doctorat.

Data limita pentru depunerea candidaturilor pentru anul universitar 2009/2010 este 9 ianuarie 2009
